The goal of having a Physical Champion is to create a holistic approach to physical development that is wider than just a physical education teaching offer. This means that we look at physical development from the bottom up, looking at fundamental movement skills which are crucial as the foundations on which to build a child’s physical development of both gross motor skills and fine motor skills.
Alongside physical development we aim to boost physical literacy. Physical literacy is a person’s relationship with physical activity throughout life. At Delamere we aim to offer our child a variety of fun and engaging opportunities to be physically active in order to build positive relationships with physical activity which will promote health and wellbeing in future life.
Here at Delamere we value the positive impact sports and physical activity can have on a child’s mental health and wellbeing. We offer opportunities for personal challenge and achievement as well as teamwork opportunities to build a sense of belonging and inclusivity. All of these factors are proven to help children boost confidence, self-esteem, and help with overcoming past trauma by offering a safe space for expression and belonging.
The physical champion works closely with other agencies and partners to ensure that children are working on bespoke and meaningful skills to positively impact their lives. We work with Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapists, private physiotherapists, swimming teachers as well as building close links with other agencies such as Lancashire Cricket Foundation, AFC Meadowside, MATP and the Special Olympics.
Our Physical Champion supports our goals by offering a range of physical interventions and opportunities based upon different target groups for example;
