Panathlon Ten Pin Bowling Tournament

Following their success in the first round Hedgehog class Team A were invited to take part in the next round of the Panathlon Ten Pin Bowling tournament. This time we headed off to Bolton to compete against teams across the North West. The children were fantastic and represented Delamere to the highest standard, not only the team competing but also the Team B who were able to go and support their friends whilst having a fun game of bowling.

The children displayed exceptional team work, sportsmanship and bowling skill, ending with a 2nd place finish and securing a spot in the next round of the tournament. WELL DONE!!

Gymnastic Competition

A group of children recently attended a gymnastics competition hosted by our local club @FusionAcademy. They worked very hard in the weeks leading up to the competition practicing their skills and routines and all their hard work paid off. The children all remembered their floor routines and performed them brilliantly, showcasing their confidence and skills. Next up was the vault, which was very new to all the children, they all listened to instructions and followed the advice they were given to put on an impressive display. Millie even got an special award for her enthusiasm and improvement in the group games. Well done everyone you represented Delamere brilliantly.

Access Sport

Today a group of children from Frog class were invited to attend a climbing and sports event day organised by @AccessSport. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to take part in a range of sporting activities and try some things that were new to them. We started the day with some Yoga, then on to some arts and crafts, followed by a fitness and cheerleading session and finally we took to the walls for some climbing. The children engaged with new people, following instructions from unfamiliar adults, tried sports that were new to them and really pushed the boundaries of their experiences and capabilities.

Aquasplash Swimming Gala

A small group of pupils recently attended the School Games Aquasplash swimming gala where they were able to take part in a series of fun relay races against other schools in the area. Everyone did a fantastic job at following all the race instructions, showing off their swimming skills and most importantly displayed great teamwork, giving each other lots of encouragement and helping each other with floats and instructions.

Disability Football Festival

Some children from Rabbit class and Squirrel class were lucky enough to be invited to take part in a carousel of fun football themed activities hosted by Urmston AFC Meadowside Pan Disability Football club. The children had a fantastic afternoon practising their movement and ball skills. They had opportunities to play competitive games against children from other schools and most importantly have lots of fun.

Panathlon Ten Pin Bowling tournament

Rock Climbing at The Big Depot

A small group of children from Frog class were invited along to the Depot to take part in a 1 hour rock climbing sessions. This was a great test of balance, coordination, strength and flexibility, but most importantly it gave our children an opportunity to push their boundaries and even surprise themselves of what they are capable of. Well done Frogs!!

Lancashire Cricket Coaching

Squirrel and Ladybird class have been lucky enough to have Ben from the Lancashire cricket foundation every Thursday to deliver some indoor cricket sessions. The children have learnt how to bowl over arm, hold a cricket bat correctly and hit the ball, score runs and field. The children did fantastically well remembering what they have learnt over the weeks to be able to take part in a series of mini games, displaying the techniques and skills they have learnt. These sessions have been lots of fun for everybody and one child has gone away wanting to take up cricket outside of school!

P.E. Leadership: Multi-skills festival at FGS

As part of their P.E. Leadership programme Courtney and Nimrah had to plan and deliver a short game at a Multi-skills festival which was attended by other schools from within the borough. They decided on a game called ‘Chain Trian’ where teams competed against each other to capture a chain from the other teams train by throwing a bean bag in to it and then they could steal it and add it to their train. Courtney and Nimrah did an excellent job of giving clear instructions and modelling how to play the game to their younger peers.

The event was also attended by our KS1 class Ladybird, who had the opportunity to play all the games that had been planned by the P.E. leaders from the other schools. They were excellent at representing Delamere and giving all of the games a try.

Sale Sharks: Tackle Together SEN Festival

Some children from squirrel class and hedgehog class were lucky enough to be invited down to the Seashell Trust to take part in a rugby festival organised by Sale Sharks. The event was attended by other SEND primary and high schools form across the region, with the schools taking part in a variety of fun competitive and non-competitive rugby themed games. Our children made us proud, with their enthusiasm and skills shown.

Let Girls Play

We kicked off our Let Girls Play activities early with a trip to Springfield Primary School who we jointly won the FA award for Trafford for last years Let Girls Play event. Their Yr 6 girls ran a carousel of games and activities for some of our KS2 girls and it was a huge success. We had great fun and it was great to get out and play with another school. Thank you Springfield and well done Delamere girls.

To mark the FA’s Let Girls Play day on the 7th March we sent a group of our girls to Disney Shooting stars where they took part in a carousel of activities designed at building foundation skills for football whilst being fun and even better they all had a Disney theme. We had great fun and our girls coped amazingly in a new and busy environment and gave all the games a really good go.

As well as our trips out to mark Let Girls Play day we were lucky enough to have AFC Meadowsides’ PAN disability coaches in to run inclusive football sessions throughout the day for the entire school. The coaches adapted all the games and activities for each of our classes and delivered a fantastically fun day for everyone, including some mini matches and ending with our wheelchair football match between Owl and Hedgehog class.

Ten Pin Bowling

A group of KS2 pupils attended a regional ten pin bowling competition organised by Penathlon Challenge. This was a fully inclusive sporting event enabling some of our less ambulant pupils a chance to take part. Being the reigning Champions the children got to use the VIP lane. Unfortunately we did not retain our title, however we were immensely proud of the children’s sportsmanship in cheering each other on and helping each other where we could. The children had a fantastic time and looking forward to a strong return next year.

Some of the children from school were selected to form Delamere Dynamo’s to perform at Trafford’s got Talent. Delamere and Woodhouse School Inclusion Project

Delamere welcomed Woodhouse each week as new pupils from both schools undertook a variety of all ability sports and games, to build relationships with children outside of their own school community, learn new games and grow new friendships. The project was a huge success with children saying the whole thing has made them feel happy and excited..

The aim of this project is to improve social skills, teamwork, honesty, self-belief, respect physical and mental wellbeing through the power of sport. Each week the two schools would meet up and play different sports whilst getting to know each other.

Children played games and sports that allowed them to use their communication and social skills to problem solve, compromise, turn take and discuss tactics. They played a variety of sports such as boccia, New Age Kurling, hockey, football and archery. Over the weeks they learnt to use skills that involved having to use power and accuracy such as New Age Curling, archery, Polly bat and bowling. It was lovely to see children sharing strategies and giving helpful hints to each other such as “try moving your hand like this to hold your stick properly.”

Pupils showed great enthusiasm and passion for sport by showing determination to win and showing plenty of resilience for sports that they may not have tried before or sports that might have not been their main strength. Pupils of Delamare always looked forward to having their friends of Woodhouse come round and were very keen on finding out which sports/ activities we would be doing that afternoon.

Panathalon Challenge

Eight of our pupils had the exciting opportunity to participate in the IQM Primary Panathalon challenge at the Bolton Arena. Children had the opportunity to play new sports such as table cricket as well as take part in a competition to represent Delamere. Children did activities such as parachute games, throwing games, Kurling and Boccia. They also got a tour of Bolton Wanderers football stadium where they had the opportunity to look inside the media room, the home and away changing rooms and also got to see the stadium from a footballer’s point of view at pitch side. The children loved the tour and the activities that were provided for them. Every child received a certificate and a medal for their hard-earned efforts. We would like to say a massive thank you for all the volunteers and staff who worked at the Bolton Arena to make all this possible.

Football Festival

Delamere participated in a football festival. Children were able to showcase their football skills in this event. They played lots of fun games which allowed them to practise their shooting, dribbling, passing and tactical awareness skills. They had great fun and they all earned a medal and certificate for their hard earned efforts. An active lifestyle promotes healthy mental wellbeing.

Bowling

Children of Delamere took part in in a bowling competition set up by The Panathalon Foundation. The children were very excited to attend Hollywood Bowl and learn some new skills. Although we didn’t make it through to the next round the children did remarkably well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Sports Leaders Trip

our sports leaders got a wonderful opportunity to visit The Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground to get a hands-on experience on what it takes to be a good sports leader. The pupils arrived at the ground where they were inspired by cricketer Ella Telford. She spoke about her experiences as a leader and answered questions from the children.

Pupils paticipated in some workshops where they explored what skills were needed to become an effective leader. They also had a tour of the stadium where they got to experience what the dressing rooms were like and see inside the media centre. Finally, they took part in some mini cricket activities which included throwing, catching and keeping a ball up on a cricket bat.

Many thanks to kay Statham, Chris Dyson and everyone at the Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground for making this such a wonderful experience.

Sports Week

What a fantastic week we have had! The children started the week with an opening ceremony where they were able to showcase their country flags that they had made and sing along to their country’s national anthem. The children got to play lots of different games such as New Age Kurling, water polo, benchball, parachute games and football. Some pupils had the opportunity to attend a Simply Cycling session where they were able to try out some custom bikes and cycle around a running track. This was all rounded off with a closing ceremony in which children received medals and certificates for their efforts.

Pupils and staff demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and resilience, despite the hot weather. Everyone showed a fantastic display of involvement and enjoyment for sport

We hope this week has inspired your children to get active and enjoy sport as well as learn about the Commonwealth Games.

Sports Leadership Graduation

4 children from Squirrel Class were selected as sports leaders to represent Delamere School. The children took part in different sports leaders activities at Lancashire Cricket Ground. They were then given some tasks to complete over the course of the year e.g. delivering sports activities to their peers and creating a poster on the importance of an active lifestyle. They went back to the Cricket Ground to celebrate their graduation for all of their hard work. They received certificates, badges and a t-shirt.
