Admissions

Our vision, our values and our rights underpin all of our policies and the education we deliver.

Article 3 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child states that:

The best interests of the child must be a top priority in all decisions that affect children.

This policy has been created to keep the children at Delamere School safe and happy.

Underlying our work as educators, we are committed to some fundamental values and principles;

  • We believe that all children have the right to the best possible education, irrespective of gender, race, religion or special educational needs.
  • We believe that education is concerned with the development of the whole person – academically, physically, socially culturally morally and spiritually.
  • We believe that the educational process is a partnership involving not only the teacher and child but also parents and the wider community.

Delamere is a co-educational primary school providing education for pupils with learning difficulties and associated needs such as autism or sensory impairments in the age range 3 – 11 years.

Trafford follows a model of local primary special school provision. Children are allocated a place at the special school that caters to their post code. Delamere School currently serves the following post code areas: M31, M41, M33 4/5/6/7

The Local Education Authority controls admission of pupils to all Special Schools.

Admission to Delamere School will either be:

  • on a short term assessment placement, which will culminate in a multi-agency decision with parents about the most appropriate permanent placement to follow or;
  • following the naming of Delamere School in an Education, Health and Social Care Plan.

All pupils admitted to Delamere School will have a degree of learning difficulty, and may have other associated needs such as autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairments or behavioural problems.

Prior to admittance, parents and prospective pupil will be invited to the school to meet the Head teacher or member of the senior management team, and discuss the particular needs of the individual. The visit will occur before any decisions regarding admission are finalised.

We are pleased to arrange an individual tour of the school on a normal working day; this provides an excellent opportunity to see the school in action, a chance to ask any questions about the curriculum and the school in general and an opportunity to appreciate the unique character of Delamere School.

All transitions into Delamere are carefully managed to ensure as much continuity and as little disruption as possible for each child. Transitions are personalised to each child and family but there are some agreed steps for all such as a mandatory home visit, visit to existing setting as appropriate, Starter pack completion, and parent visit to school.

Any parents of prospective pupils who may need the education offered at Delamere can arrange to visit the school by telephoning 0161 747 5893.
